Emergency Grocery list

  • Food:
    • 2 weeks extra groceries: amount of food = (# of people in family x 3 meals/day x 14 days) + (snacks x 14 days)Either pre-packaged emergency food or extra canned/non-perishables.
      • Example: Breakfast = 1 pkg oatmeal
      • Lunch/supper  = 1 cup rice + 1 source of protein + 1 can veggies (1/2 that for a kid), and  snacks Family of 4: 56 pkg oatmeal (7 boxes of 8 pkg),  42 cups rice(2 bags 10lbs), 42 cans beans/meat , 42 cans veggies, 14 family bags chips, 14 family box cookies.
    • Bottled water 
  • Medical:
    • Gloves for cleaning up after sick people if you aren’t sick. 
    • Tylenol or other fever/pain reducers for all ages in your family. 
    • Thermometer for verifying temperatures. 
    • Any prescriptions or medication refills
    • First Aid kit
  • Comfort:
    • Electrolyte drinks
    • Ginger Ale – ginger settles stomach some people find it comforting when sick. 
    • Simple canned soup and microwave dinners – Easily digested meals that can be reheated.
    • Crackers  – an easy source of food when appetite is low. 
    • Entertainment -games, puzzles, coloring books
